Broadway Avenue Improvement Project Update | Transportation
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
The Broadway Avenue project is continuing as projected. Here are updates from this week’s construction work, courtesy of Washington County:
- Temporary paving was completed on the north side of Broadway Avenue between 12th Street and I-35 as well as the temporary ramps on the east half of the interchange. Traffic was shifted onto the temporary surface to allow construction to occur outside these areas. Concrete barriers were placed along the temporary ramps as an added safety measure.
- Work continued under Stage 3 construction on the south side of Broadway Avenue this week with storm sewer construction and roadway grading.
- Construction began on the permanent ramps on the east side of the interchange.
- Construction of the I-35 median pier continued this week. The crash barrier and columns, as well as the north cap section, were constructed this week.
- Xcel continues to work on power pole relocations on the north side of Broadway Avenue from 8th to 12th Street.
- Utility relocations continued on the north side of Broadway Avenue between 7th Street and Centennial Drive. This sidewalk remains closed to pedestrians temporarily.
- Traffic was switched to the north side of Broadway Avenue last week to allow for work in Stage 3 to begin.
- Traffic was also switched to the temporary ramps on the east side of the interchange to allow construction to begin on the permanent ramps.
- A temporary business access, consisting of a westbound one-way temporary driveway will be implemented next week on the south side of Broadway Avenue for businesses between 12th Street Southwest and 7th Street Southwest. The driveway will be opened when the contractor is ready to commence with concrete paving operations, currently planned for next week. Businesses west of 12th Street can be accessed via the private drive behind Holiday during concrete paving operations.
- The 1st Avenue Northwest backage road and 8th Street are open to traffic and should be used as an alternate route to visit businesses on the north side of Broadway Avenue.
- Temporary access to Broadway Avenue is being maintained at businesses that do not have access via the 1st Avenue Northwest backage road.
- Follow posted detour routes for alternative access to/from I-35.
- Eureka Avenue from CR 83 to 217th Avenue remains closed.
Next Week’s Projects:
- Work on the south side of Broadway Avenue will continue. Concrete paving is planned to begin mid-week, starting from the east end of the construction zone and moving west toward I-35.
- Removal of the west abutment surcharge will continue.
- Work will continue on the permanent ramps on the east side of the interchange.
- Construction of the I-35 median pier will continue.
- Beam setting is scheduled to begin on Aug. 14. Nighttime closures of I-35 will be utilized to facilitate this work. I-35 traffic will be detoured onto the interchange ramps, and access will be restricted to Broadway Avenue. Similarly, access to I-35 from Broadway will be restricted during this operation. Detour routes will be posted on I-35 for access to Broadway Avenue.
- Xcel power pole removals will continue between 12th Street and 8th Street on the north side of Broadway Avenue.
- Other utility relocation work will continue between 7th Street and Centennial Drive on the north side of Broadway Avenue.
- The Hardwood Creek Pedestrian Bridge is temporarily open, but will be closed periodically to install permanent railings and remove temporary chain link fencing. Look for the bridge to be permanently opened in late August.
- All individual business advertising signs have been removed from the county right-of-way. Additional business signing is up along Broadway Avenue to direct drivers to 8th Street and the 1st Avenue Northwest backage road.
- Additional business signing will be installed on Broadway Avenue to direct drivers to the westbound one-way temporary business access.
